About Avery

A Groupon to ‘try something new’ introduced Avery to the art of Irish dancing. Avery began dancing when she was five years old with McGing Irish Dancers and quickly fell in love with the sport. Progressing through the many levels of Irish dance, Avery entered the Open Championship level, Irish dance’s highest level, when she was 10 years old. At eleven, Avery qualified for the North American Irish Dance Championships (NAIDC) where she competed in Orlando, Florida, and had the honor to compete in the All Ireland’s Championship in Killarney, Ireland. She also competed with her choreography team that same year at the World’s Irish Dance Championship where they placed 2nd in the World! At twelve, Avery placed 8th in the Mid-America Regional Championships, qualified again for the NAIDC, and for her first time qualified as a soloist for the World Irish Dance Championships (Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne). Unfortunately, both competitions were canceled in 2020 due to Covid-19. Avery was also selected that year by the Riverdance Academy to participate in their 2020 summer school. This past November at the age of 13, Avery placed 3rd at the Mid-America Regional Championships, her highest achievement to date, qualifying again for the NAIDC and the World’s Irish Dance Championships. She is eagerly looking forward to having the honor to compete in Phoenix, AZ in the NAIDC in early July 2021 and at World’s in Dublin, Ireland in late summer 2021.

Avery is a strong competitor but receives her most joy from performing with her family of McGing Irish Dancers. She has had the opportunity to perform at the Cincinnati Celtic Festival, Cincinnati Red’s baseball games, with Gaelic Storm at the Taft Theatre, the Cincinnati St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Christmas in Killarney, and many St. Patrick’s Day performances and local news programming. She is very thankful for her friends at McGing Irish Dancers and her incredible teachers, led by Mary McGing Duckworth. Irish dance has and continues to teach Avery many valuable life lessons as she loves to dance and hopes to pass along the joy of Irish dance to those who watch her perform.
